What Happens When My Complianz Premium License Expires?

If your Complianz Premium subscription expires, the plugin does not stop working immediately — but there are meaningful limitations that come into effect, and the situation will worsen over time if the license is not renewed. This article explains what changes, what keeps working, and what to do.

What happens right away

As soon as your license expires, access to the plugin's backend management features is blocked. Specifically, you will no longer be able to:

  • Edit or update your legal documents (Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, etc.)
  • Make changes to your cookie banner configuration
  • Receive plugin updates, including security patches
  • Access priority support

If your site uses TCF (Transparency & Consent Framework) services, these will also stop functioning correctly upon expiration, as TCF requires an active license to operate.

What keeps working (for now)

Your existing cookie consent banner will continue to display on your website for some time after the license expires. The configuration you had in place at the time of expiration remains active on the frontend. This means your visitors will still see the banner and be prompted for consent — as long as no changes are needed and no updates break the existing setup.

However, this is a temporary situation. If you leave the license expired for an extended period, the frontend will eventually start experiencing issues too — including the banner and legal documents. Renewing sooner rather than later avoids this risk.

A note on Premium plans

All Complianz Premium subscriptions include the same features. The difference between plans (Single Site, Agency 25, Agency 100, etc.) is only the number of license slots — that is, how many WordPress sites you can activate the plugin on. The features themselves are identical across all paid plans.

The free version of the plugin has functionality limitations compared to Premium. If you are on a free plan and were comparing it to a Premium plan, that is a separate question from license expiration.

How to renew

To restore full access, renew your subscription from your account on complianz.io. You can check your subscription status, fix payment issues, or update your payment method under the Profile and Subscriptions tabs in your account.

Complianz strongly recommends keeping auto-renewal enabled to avoid any interruption to your configuration access, legal document updates, and plugin security patches.
